I doodled a bunch of a little mermaid au stuff last night with no intention to post it but now I'm posting it anyway and making it your problem

This is not even all of it, gonna post the rest later

Gonna ramble about this under the cut cause even tho it started as I wanna draw wwx as merfolk it somehow developed somewhat of a plot??

So the beginning is pretty self explanatory but some background stuff would be the Jiang and Wen are merfolk but the Wen were discovered by humans and hunted down to just the remnants that wwx protects in canon, and the Jiang (and presumably other underwater clans I haven't thought about) also shun the Wen remnants and blame them for being discovered. Wwx disagreed with the others about the Wen being responsible of their own demise and left the Jiang to live with them. They aren't in danger anymore though, otherwise wwx wouldn't just fuck off to the surface even if he would come back.

The Lan, Jin and Nie clans are human and the characters hold similar social statuses as in canon. (Also I was just drawing with no idea about the world and just wanting to forward the story and the clothes definitely reflect that being western but the hairstyles being from canon and the Lans still having their ribbons and such.)

Wwx meets and saves lwj similar to the mousehouse version, but him turning human doesn't involve a third party or a time limit because his goal isn't to be human full time. He does a ritual that turns him human but it requires a sacrifice in exchange and he gives his voice. He can turn back at will but if he does he'll have to do the ritual all over again to change into a human again. His voice also returns when he's in his original form.

Wwx has seen lwj before saving him and has a little crush and after saving him he finds lwj's ribbon floating around in the ocean and not knowing the importance of it takes it as a lil memento of him. (Hence lwj in the sketches not having it.)

Also the merfolk are a lot more fishy than the average fairytale mermaids, with having gills, webbed hands etc, and due to gills wwx can't stay above the surface for long unless he's neck deep in water, same with speaking, he can speak above the surface for a bit until he runs out of air.

So after lwj finds human!wwx on the beach thinking he's been washed up from a shipwreck he brings wwx home and they find ways to communicate, he teaches wwx to write and they both learn sign language together and go on cute dates and have a good time and fall in love. Lxc is happy for his little brother but also worried because their uncle had been planning on an engagement for lwj and mm and is not happy about wwx suddenly popping up.

Interesting how even Barbara and Leah get nicknamed "powerhouses" by Daniel. He uses 主戦力 in the raws which could mean "main military power" but also "main valuable assets"... once again seeing them not by their character but by their value? To be honest, I guess it doesn't mean much when he calls them this once, but I thought it was worth pointing out.

It seems to me that the only thing keeping Dante alive is Vergilius. Because if he has no plans after finally killing him, what else is there for him? Just dying trying to repent for his mistakes? Finally let go? So I guess Vergilius recognizes this and decides he can't die. Because if he dies, then the man he (presumably) loves dies, too.

I saw someone mention this on Twitter: Dante can't live in a world where Vergilius doesn't exist (so he gives up on life when Vergilius is gone) while Vergilius won't accept a world where he and Dante can't live together (and therefore wants to change the world).

Weaow......

I think there's also something to say about Vergilius' childish appearance reflecting some sort of... inner workings of his? Does that make sense? I feel like the constant mention of it is trying to point to something. Like here:

Onto Imuri!

Lol the english translation didn't keep the heart Imuri added in her thoughts. Basically it's the same words but with a heart like "Oh, I've been here with Mr. Priest before ♡" Normally I wouldn't care, but I think this adds to her... character? Maybe? Well, whatever. Not particularly important, but The More You Know!

I will begin by saying that I don't think it's Priest? Imuri herself doesn't think so either, so it's most likely someone else. They're muttering the name Rodrigo, which is curiously the name Belphegor uses when going to Earth in order to investigate marriage. Hm!!!! Inch resting indeed...

Oh, God! These expressions were genuinely heartrending. She really was looking for that sliver of hope -- that her hunch was wrong. That she and Imuri could stay friends. I am heartbroken for Leah. :( (and Barbara, for that matter).

They even try to find a middle ground, too! Barbara tries to find a common goal! They really don't want to exorcize her right now! But Imuri also raises valid points: why wake him to just put him to work again?

But then she says, soo confident in herself: what Priest needs right now is me. I guess she has actual proof of that? But by God it is so egoistical. (A word that describes Imuri quite well...)

okay but like how instrumental is snape to voldemort's victory, really? it's obvi very slay of him to be the deciding factor in whether or not the war is won, but assuming the scenario in which he just doesn't give a fuck about voldemort going after lily and her sons and therefore feels no need to switch sides and atone, does he do enough to still have a hand in how things play out?

like, from a meta standpoint, snape as a character is very dependent on his love, his devotion, and his sense of responsibility, so a universe in which he's deprived of that is one where he never bothers to ask voldemort to spare lily at all, and it's someone else's love that wraps up the story and delivers the message all nice and cute with a pretty little bow on top.

however, just for the sake of allowing my boy to be fucked and fucked up (as a treat), what do you think happens if he doesn't defect? he's already asked for her life to spared, but let's say that he forgives voldemort for his, ah, misfortune, in being defied by the potter girl. lily was something of a spitfire, and it's only natural that she would've done what she did. so he shrugs and continues making murder potions and doing other such death eating activities, and what then? what goes on with the war?

does he help quirrel steal the stone instead of doing his part to guard it? does he work with pettigrew to restore their lord to his former not-a-wraith glory once it's revealed that they've been working towards the same goal? does he just let harry fall off his broom and die?

bro, the potential tension from people (so many people but mostly sirius) thinking he never changed and them being right and not finding out until it's too late??

like ik some people go really overboard with how much spying he actually did and how good he really was at it, but the potential in there is truly delightful. i like thinking about it even if i know that logically it would've just ended up being a different love and a different sacrifice in the event that he's not driven to atone for his sins and subsequently grow to believe in what he's really fighting for.

scenario one:

if snape doesn't ask him to spare lily, voldemort wins. there's nobody else he's going to care enough about to make him offer her the choice to stand aside.

[and he realises this - since he tells the death eaters in goblet of fire that lily's refusal to going along with the chance to spare herself is what caused the curse to backfire - and so the fact that he gets over it the second he sees snape again is all the proof snapemort nation need that our ship is canon...]

deathly hallows obscures this [in pursuit of its narrow good-versus-evil narrative] and the films take that and run with it [by making voldemort look like an idiot] but the clear implication of canon is that if voldemort either doesn't go to the potters' or goes but doesn't offer lily a choice... then, come 1st november 1981, he's victorious. it's a classic bit of "the villain would get what they want were it not for their own hubris".

scenario two:

if snape does ask him to spare lily and then believes he actually will, meaning he doesn't defect, voldemort is still blasted into the ether by the force of love tm, and then resurrected the same way he is in canon, since arthur weasley is still going to win his luxury egyptian holiday, meaning sirius is still going to see the picture of wormtail and wormtail is still going to flee to his master to escape him [even if lupin, who would have nobody to brew him the wolfsbane, isn't employed at hogwarts].

snape just wouldn't be working at hogwarts at the time.

whether he gets his job there - and whether he therefore just headshots harry the second he sets foot in the school - depends on whether he decides to pretend to have been under the imperius curse or not and whether dumbledore decides to believe him.

[since he gets off being tried in canon - meaning he's known to the ministry, perhaps because karkaroff isn't the only captured death eater who names him - because he's already switched sides and dumbledore vouches for him. if he's not going to pretend to defect, then this is the only option available.]

lucius malfoy would definitely advise him to do this, but i can also see snape being got in a similar way to augustus rookwood - that is, since his role was espionage, rather than combat, he would have got away with things if somebody hadn't dobbed him in.

rookwood clearly doesn't take the same stand as bellatrix - if karkaroff didn't get him arrested, he was undoubtedly going to try and lurk undetected in the department of mysteries until he reached retirement age, rather than having no intention of obscuring his death eater connections - but he also clearly doesn't disavow voldemort once he's on the stand. i think there's a high chance of snape intending to go to ground when voldemort disappears, only to be sent to azkaban when the finger-pointing starts by telling barty crouch sr. he thinks he's a dickhead and voldemort's great.

which voldemort - who regards being sent to prison as the least his minions could do for him - would like.

it's clear from the fact that percy weasley is beefing with him by name in deathly hallows that rookwood is sent back to the ministry once the coup happens. a post-azkaban snape would, therefore, go back into whatever was doing before voldemort's fall. aka making potions and being his live-in boyfriend.

I’ve also read most of your 666 series and remember in the notes of one of the stories that you mentioned something about Alastor being aroace and that’s why he experiences things the way he does in your fics. I felt like that was portrayed very well!! I also felt like Lucifer not being that way, being overtly attracted to Angel was well written!! I was just wondering how you’re able to write both sides of the coin as well as you do?? I’m asexual and I don’t think I even realized I was writing all of my NSFW fics from an asexual perspective on things until I compared some of your works. I guess that kind of attraction just feels so out there for me it’s hard to imagine anyone feels that way?? I’m not sure lol…

In any case!! I was wondering if you had any tips on accurately portraying an allosexual character?? I feel way out of my depth now that I’ve realized there is a readable difference.

AH, thank you so much! It's funny that you say that because I was just thinking about how writing NSFW from Lucifer's POV after Alastor's POV is actually really funny to me given the sharp contrast in how they experience sex and intimacy. I'm glad that they come through properly!

When I write NSFW from the perspective of an allosexual character (which is most of my NSFW), I'm not really thinking, "Hm, this character is allo. How does that affect things?" Rather, I'm still very much just writing what I want to see. There's a text post that was going around the other day that said something to the tune of, "When I say that man is fuckable, that does not mean I want to fuck that man. / I want someone else to fuck that man for me." and I'm definitely channeling that, hahahaha.

Not all aro/ace experiences are the same and not all allo experiences are the same, so a lot of it comes down to how I think a specific character would feel as a whole rather than their sexuality alone. I wouldn't write Vox the same way I'd write Lucifer, either, and a not-insignificant part of Alastor's detachment comes from him being an asshole on top of being aroace, haha.

Nonetheless, some concrete things about how I write these particular characters differently:

When you are writing in third person limited like I do, what you describe is often a reflection of what the character is paying attention to. I spend relatively little time describing Vox's body from Alastor's POV. Describing Alastor's body from Vox's POV would be, uh, a time, let's just put it that way.

Lucifer very much thinks that Angel Dust is hot, and he will admire him, both plainly and when Angel takes advantage of his obvious attraction to do something cute

Lucifer wants to touch Angel Dust for reasons of "I think it would just be nice to touch him" rather than always for a specific goal (eg. Alastor mostly touches Vox to get fun reactions)

The goal for Lucifer is sex with Angel, not sex, and Angel is helping that happen or even messing around with Angel, and sex is helping that happen

When you're a guy who's mostly been having sex in the context of a loving, committed relationship for millennia, sexual contact is intimacy is vulnerability is emotional connection, and all of those things can get really tangled up in one another.

I've streamlined a lot of it into just code-switching into the characters' heads to the point where I don't really keep these things explicitly in mind, so I hope that this was at least a little helpful!

...Also, honest to god, I've just read a lot of porn, and most of it is obviously not of ace characters. Over the years, you pick up what you find hot, LOL.

Which Danganronpa do you think got dealt the worst by Localization?

I'd be lying if I didn't say Gonta. (though Angie's god changing from being a generic god, making her a mockery of religious folk, to Atua, a very specific god that real people actually worship, has some fucked up, arguably kinda racist implications.)

A small CW for discussing the R slur in this analysis/rant. I don't write it out, but I understand 100% if you don't want to read it.

Speaking in the third person is considered a cute quirk in Japan. When a Japanese author has a character speak in third person, they are usually trying to make the character appear cute and harmless, which absolutely fits Gonta.

However, most American (or culturally American) authors reserve that kind of third person talk is reserved either for cavemen, or neurodivergent characters, with the implication that the character in question is too dumb to have a proper grasp of English. (Abelism much?)

This fits everyone else's perception of Gonta, but not who he actually is as a character.

One of the main points of Ch4 is that the class (even characters Kodaka wants you to like, such as Kaito and Himiko) was wrong to treat Gonta like he was stupid, and that Kokichi, who you aren't meant to like (as a person. As an antagonist he does a decent job) at this point, was in the right. With the big twist of Ch6 coming up, in addition to the Ch5 reveal that people like Kaito and Kokichi can work together to a common goal, it's important to point out that your cast isn't as perfect or infallible as they appear.

Which is why it does such a disservice to have Gonta continue to speak in the third person in the English version.

Gonta isn't the first character to speak in the third person in Danganronpa, Ibuki does it too! But it doesn't affect Ibuki's characterization in the same way, since Ibuki's character isn't about wrongly being underestimated. If Ibuki comes across as slightly dumber, it isn't a disservice to the themes of the story.

Also, Ibuki's backstory doesn't evoke Cavemen in the western player's mind.

Some other changes around Gonta were made, notably that Miu does not actually say the R slur to him. The word is a step up from 'baka' in rudeness, so "moron" or "fucking idiot" would be closer to the original tone. Miu calls many people idiots, with Kaito and Kaede being the first to mind. Only Gonta gets the ableist slur treatment -_- (Which makes the fact that it was put in there even more heartbreaking for me.)

Even if you aren't meant to agree with Miu, this can subtly color your perceptions of Gonta. Also, Miu gets a lot of hate for this, which doesn't seem fair to me. Stan Miu.

The most infuriating thing about this is, there's another v3 character that speaks in the third person in Japanese. My queen, Tenko Chabashira. They changed how she referred to herself for the western audiences, when arguably keeping it the same would not have done her that much of a disservice to her character. (She's a comic relief character who says dumb shit. Having her seem a bit less cute and a bit more stupid to western audiences wouldn't affect her plotline that much. Some people would maybe get irrationally angry and say she's a strawman (or strawwoman! sorry Tenko.) for feminists, but Kiibo is right there.)

So the argument that the translators would have to put a lot of work in doesn't hold.

In order to adapt Gonta more accurately and have him seem cute like Kodaka intended, I propose that he has emoticons at the end of his sentences sometimes. (I am shot by a sniper rifle for this idea!)

Heres his canon first line (not counting pregame because fuck that)

"Oh! Sorry for scaring! Gonta scary-looking. Most people not wanna talk to Gonta when meeting for first time. So, like gentleman, Gonta say thank you! Thank you for talking to Gonta!"

and here's it with how I'd alter it.

"Oh! Sorry for scaring! I'm scary-looking. Most people not wanna talk to me when meeting for first time. :( So, like gentleman, I say thank you! Thank you for talking to Me! :)"

Like, he comes across different, huh? Even to my eye, it reads more like he's struggling with the language in the second one, while the first one not so much.

Kaito and the Saiouma ship actually benefit from the localization, but that is another topic for another day.

(1) I’ve largely erred on the side of not saying this because I don’t care to rain on anyone’s parade, but since you mentioned feeling like the friendship between Tomura and Spinner can get blown out of proportion, I can think of at least one concrete reason for why that disconnect might exist. I obviously don't blame people for taking the official translations at face value, but I feel like Spinner's line about "bonding" with Tomura over games is another example of sentiments getting

I feel this way about a lot of peoples' interpretations of the League and their interactions. Not just Spinner and Shigaraki, but all of them. I feel like a lot of gestures get blown way out of proportion. Shigaraki's "I just want them to be able to live how they see fit" does not equal "Their happiness is my priority, and I'm going to work to create a world where they can be happy". I'm sorry but those two are not the same thing, and I haven't seen Shigaraki act in such a way either. Those two goals may point in the same direction (they don't because he's a fucking liar to his own face and so is Toga to her own face), but that kind sentiment did not suddenly mean that he is prioritizing their happiness and wellbeing above all else. If that was the case, well, they wouldn't have formed a giant ass army to take on the world at war and risk dying (which one of them did) and Spinner wouldn't be in the situation he is in now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

I don't want to rain on people's parades either, but my opinions are pretty clear and have been for a while and people have had plenty of time to block/unfollow me as they see necessary. So at this point, I don't hold back (I try very hard to avoid being super negative though about any character in general). I used to hold back my not so popular (in the villain corner of the fandom) interpretations on the League up until recently. As we've gotten closer to the end, I've decided that I'm just gonna put my opinion out into the void even if many people--specifically in the little circle of blogs I occupy--don't like it. And many don't, and that's okay. My opinion doesn't change unless the manga gives me a reason to change it.

Spinner and Shigaraki--I have a lot of issues here, MAJORITY of it due to fandom hyping them up as more than they are. And look, I don't care when stuff is clearly fanon or headcanons. Posts that are meant to be taken that way are usually pretty clear about it. But these are whole analyses based off of this overblown bond/friendship that literally only Spinner seems to acknowledge/be so attached to.

I don't doubt Shigaraki views everyone in the League as a friend in some capacity. I don't doubt that at all. I don't doubt that he cares and genuinely wants them to live how they want. However, I would like for someone to show me where he pays the same type of special attention to Spinner that Spinner gives to him. Imo, Shigaraki treats them all pretty equally--Spinner included.

I didn't know that about the Japanese, and yet, I still felt this way. Assuming that someone who has a good understanding of Japanese can correct your statement, I'm gonna take your word for it since I can't say shit otherwise lol. But cool--yeah that particular line is used quite a bit. And I get it! It's fun especially if you ship the characters or just enjoy their interactions.

But I feel like people overlook the fact that Spinner's idolization and attachment is literally negative and is a challenge in his arc, not some cute uwu friendship that was just about video games (when would they have played video games in canon??? WHEN????).

Spinner decided to seriously devote himself to Shigaraki (which in itself is a weird not great thing to do) during MVA, because it looked as if Shigaraki had made progress and overcome a barrier and become this all powerful destructive god who can make dreams come true (dreams for someone who wants to lash out at least). But MVA was not any of that. MVA was Shigaraki doing exactly what AFO wanted him to do--get worse emotionally, spiral more mentally and become even more unstable, and hate himself to the point that he sees no point in thinking or hoping for change for the better. Perfect, all according to keikaku. And THAT is when Spinner was like "FUCK YEAH THIS GUY". I know Spin didn't know that, but come oN guys THE TIMING OF IT IS SO FORETELLING.

AND IT WAS. Because look now. What has turned me completely off to this dynamic is the fandom hyping it up as a pure devotion that isn't stemming from a lot of self-worth issues and negative idealization. Spinner associates Shigaraki with destruction, rage, anger, and misery. That's also what Shigaraki associates himself with, and that's exactly what AFO wants. And man, he sure got it out of both of them.

And I'd like it if people acknowledged that more for what it is, but it's just reduced down to "two gamers that AFO groomed and took advantage of". And I feel that is just super oversimplifying what actually happened. AFO didn't groom Spinner from the age of 5, he took advantage of a vulnerability he was able to pinpoint super quickly after Spinner made it painfully obvious.

I like Spinner more on his own, and I like the potential for him to face the reality that him ignoring his gut instincts in favor of that dream of destruction he associates with Shigaraki eventually led to him making things worse for Shigaraki--unintentionally. I mean he hasn't made shit hit the fan YET--but man if things aren't looking ominous as fuck right now. AFO is counting on Spinner? Oof. But the potential for drama here is exciting, and I'm ready for it.

But yeah. I agree--it's overblown imo. It has become a plot point in Shigaraki's arc in a negative way. So I feel people miss the mark when they focus on how devoted Spinner is to Shigaraki during all of this mess, because that's exactly why things look the way they do lol.

Saw your post talking about Eggman doing Evil things, I honestly feel like it depends on which eggman. Like we see multiple variations have absolutely no limits like that one creepy looking Eggman(the show had no real title ;-;) while Boom Eggman is just,, yeah, he’s him. Every one is loved in this house though <3

I'm always talking about game canon Eggman unless stated otherwise, he's the one that owns my whole heart and is always on my mind! It's where I fell in love with him and he has absolutely every aspect I love to see in the character in one version, with the kind of balance of them that isn't really done to my liking as much in other non game canon media/versions in different universes.

I assume you're talking about SatAM, haven't watched it in years as it's not my cup of tea so I only have vague memories but yeah, he was presented in a super serious and evil way and didn't have limits from what I recall. As much as I love fucked up evil Eggman, compared to game canon he was missing a lot of the other aspects of his character I love for him to have just as much.

Then the complete opposite side of the scale you have Boom, barely evil and never felt intimidating and threatening, he was too cute and funny for that. I'm not as interested in him personally because I love the fucked up evil, it's as important to me as the humor but he doesn't have it. Especially because he even had implied softness and actually just wanted friends and attention.

Game Eggman hasn't been shown to have moral limits. He'll target children and innocent people, hurt, manipulate, and use people, cause tons of catastrophic destruction with no regards for inhabitants, wildlife, or the environment, and is apathetic and sometimes sadistic towards damage he causes. His only limit of sorts is the entire planet being completely destroyed so he dies/can't rule it. It's not a limit based on morals, it's for selfish reasons.

Game canon Eggman is funny and charming with tons of passion for his interests and a unique goal of the Eggman Empire and Eggmanland but he's also a very evil, threatening, fucked up bastard that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants with no moral limits. The humor and charm gives the evil that he's capable of more impact and makes him even more fun and entertaining to me. He has the most range of all the versions Imo 🥰💜

SatAM could do all the same evil game Eggman does but it'd be without the charm, humor, and charisma which makes it even more thrilling, so it'd feel like something is missing. And Boom has the humor SatAM lacks that I like but wouldn't do all the evil game Eggman does, he'd probably think it's way too far as the not so bad guy he was implied to be. XD So it feels something is missing there for me too.

SatAM or Boom are two good examples of what has more of just one or the other of evil and humor, while game Eggman has them combined and balanced, he can do fucked up shit and sometimes be sadistic about it like SatAM could and he has the humor of Boom (but doesn't share his hidden goodness/softness) which is the best of both aspects and makes him the most interesting, entertaining, and lovable to me.

If there was a scale of evil to humorous versions, SatAM would be on the evil side, Boom would be the humor side, and right in the middle would be game Eggman for being both equally. The ideal in my eyes is right in the middle, but to each their own. I'm entertained by the balance and how much there is to explore with it, endless possibilities that SatAM or Boom couldn't do all of in the same way and some not at all.

I'm personally picky when it comes to my favorites in design, personality, portrayal, and media- I'm not the biggest fan of most other versions and I don't think about the ones I'm only neutral on much either. Game Eggman takes up all my mind space and interest more than anything lol. But I understand that every version has their differences of presentation with their own likable aspects for different people to enjoy and that's great. ^^

How To Train Your Dragon Saga

In the beginning, I was never really interested in watching the movie and never even bothered to watch the trailer, since we thought it was one of those cliche failure movies (and Dreamworks hasn't really had a very good track record of good animated movies at the time), but after being bombarded with tons of Toothcup fanfics and fanarts and after very high recommendations by my friend Jello13 from dA, I finally got down to watching the movie. Boy, was I glad I took my friend's recommendation to watch this movie, and the subsequent sequels after that, because after 3, 4 friggin' times, I still fucking LOVE this movie!!!

Here's my findings of the saga:

Apparently this movie was based on a children's novel written by Cressida Cowell which focuses on the 2nd book in a 10-volume book franchise. There are certain deviations between the real Hiccup and Toothless and the storyline as a whole, but after reading the summary of the original story, I think I like the movie version better. In fact even the writer said so in her blog that she likes the deviation as the movie captured the core essence of her story and it was amazing to see her story to be interpreted this way.

The storyline and the pacing is very good, and the sarcastic humour and slight optimism of Hiccup despite people thinking he's anything BUT a Viking is very intriguing. I love his catchphrases like "I'm way too muscular for their tastes. They wouldn't know what to do with all...this" and "Thank you for summing that up" and his famous line "You just gestured to ALL of me!" is just some of the LOL-worthy lines the talented Jay Baruchel who voices Hiccup does.

I was totally shocked to find out that Gerard Butler plays the role of Stoick, Hiccup's old man! I have never expect him, who is known for his brawniness and action-packed persona, made famous in the movie 300, would actually play a voice-over for a cartoon character. After finding out, spotting his voice and hearing the familiarity was much, much easier.

And of course, the creme de la creme of the entire movie: TOOTHLESS!! He is just so, so, so, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uber cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute~~~~!!!!! When I read about him in fanfics and caught glimpses of him through fanarts, I was thinking, "Hey, this dragon is quite cute." Now amplify that feeling by a gajillion times more. That's how I feel about Toothless. He started off a little vicious with his snake-like slit for eyes, trying to act strong and tough like the dragon he was, but the moment he let his guard down a little, he got these pair of big doe eyes that is just so MOE and SQUEE-worthy. And of course I finally learn how he got his namesake: with retractable teeth that he can materialize at will

My most favourite scene of the entire movie would be this scene where Toothless finally was at peace with Hiccup and allowed him to touch him. The way Toothless tried to copy his drawing, and then growled whenever Hiccup stepped on his drawing, then Hiccup moved to avoid the lines in tune with the music until finally they were so close they were allowed to touch was just so AWW-worthy. And the music score was perfect too, especially the title of that score: Forbidden Friendship. Isn't that just sweet?

The part where Hiccup and Toothless slowly develop that bond while trying to get Toothless back on his flight feet again was also very interesting as they slowly worked together and forget each other's differences to reach a common goal, while at the same time trying to learn about each other, and Hiccup using that knowledge to good use (the eel and the scratching of the neck part was really epic), making him the life of the team, much to his crush, Astrid's chagrin.

I also love the part where Hiccup tries to convince everyone during the final exam of killing a dragon that dragons are not what they think they are, and tried to pacify the Monstrous Nightmare only to be interrupted by Stoick and having Toothless coming to the rescue (damsel in distress much, Hiccup? XD) and revealed their relationship. It felt really sad and my heart just broke when Hiccup shouted Toothless for him not to kill Stoick and Toothless looked at him with his doe eyes, then Hiccup tries in vain to stop everyone from hurting Toothless, and that argument which led to his disowning, and earning back his role as a son by proving his worth and Toothless' reputation, though a cost of his leg. I was wondering where would be the scene where he looses his leg, since I read that he had a prosthetic in fanfics, but turns out it happened in the near end of the movie, and literally mirrored Toothless' missing left tail fin.

Ending is a bit cliche where he gets the girl, he is lauded as a war hero and gained the respect of everyone including his father, the dragons made peace with humans and all that, but still it was a very heartwarming cliche scene. One that leaves a smile on your face and a sigh of contentment in your heart.

Speaking of Astrid, not really sure it's because of that yaoi in me, but I never really saw Astrid as a suitable pairing for Hiccup. I know, I'm not usually one for bestiality, but seriously, can't you just FEEL the love between Hiccup and Toothless to the point where you can consider them as lovers? Toothcup (Toothless/Hiccup) pairings are in the rage right now since the movie has been uber popularize, and you cannot deny that sort of relationship exist, right?

This one, personally I feel, is almost as par as the first one. Not better, not worse, but more or less par. Hiccup and Astrid are still together, but the Toothcup shipper in me just don't feel like they match somehow. Moreso, suddenly out of the blue, Snotlout and Fishlegs were heads over heels with Ruffnut, which I ABSOLUTELY have NO CHEMISTRY feel whatsoever! Even after I've watched their TV series that led to the second movie, I STILL don't get the vibe or the chemistry between those three people. It's like "Wait, what?" moment.

Although that moment when Ruffnut was just totally thirsty for Eret was absolutely hilarious though. I couldn't help laughing and cringing at the same time.

When the moment Hiccup's mom Valka showed up, I was not expecting her to be so... skinny. Stoick said that he made helmets out of Hiccup's mom's breast plate, and it seemed pretty big, but looking at her, she didn't look like someone who was close to being a big bosom woman, but what is continuity anyways? LOL Though Hiccup definitely has inherited her knack for dragons. Guess it's in the blood after all.

I teared up a little when Stoick died, and I felt so bad that their bromance was threatened by this, but thankfully Hiccup still loves Toothless and is willing to forgive him and try to bring him back to his side. Goes to show how deep their bond is, and Toothless ended up becoming the Alpha Dragon was one of the most epic moments in the whole movie.

It also kinda interesting that Hiccup has somehow became pretty hot in this movie. Was pretty surprised at how he transformed from the awkward tiny little runt of a boy to a strapping man LOL

Plot feels similar to the 2nd one, but the ending was so so SO bittersweet. A fitting ending, but sweet yet painful for me to watch.

My heart broke at the scene wen Hiccup was complaining about Toothless being in love n said "Am I not enough?" and I was like internally screaming "YES! U ARE ENOUGH!! U TWO ARE ENOUGH!! FUCK THAT LIGHT FURY!!"

Throughout the courtship scene btwn Toothless and the Light Fury i was like internally screaming "NO, SHE'S A TRAP! SHE'S A FUCKING TRAP! HICCUP, WHY ARE YOU OKAY WITH THIS?! I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THIS! I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS!!"

I cried like a fucking baby, especially at the end of the movie. It was like I knew it was happening, that they were gonna break up, but I was in denial, then when Toothless hugged Hiccup goodbye, I lost it, waterworks all over. In fact, waterworks all the way to the end at their final reunion ugly-cried like a fucking baby.

It did ended perfectly; perfectly bittersweet and perfectly heartbreaking and I was like "This is it. It's official. It's over. My Toothcup ship has fucking sank!!"

Fuck you, DreamWorks, you have killed my bromance!! Gahh!! I hate and love this movie at the same time!

my ze brain is so laser focused on the kurashikis that junpei is a character i feel like i do not adequately get all the nuances of because he IS such a layered character. im unsure about writing him accurately because he does have so much going on and is so interesting and i just have not given him the same level of consideration i think he does deserve

i have been reading kayzeros zero win game which is a fucking phenomonal rewrite by the way read that shit rn and it's making me more junpei-brained than i have Ever been they Get him so fucking well. while i feel shaky on whether i myself can do him justice in fics i read that and that Straight Up Fucking Junpei

ok so. junpei IS like the most regular person in 999 and there are so many video games and media where the protagonist is the most boring traitless blank slate possible in the goal of being relatable to a broad audience. junpei isnt that because being initially one of the most normal people in zero escape means you are fucking insane Akane puts so so much effort in the second nonary game into presenting herself catered to Junpei specifically as someone he'd want to protect. She hinges sooo much on making sure she's cute and sweet and innocent and caring and doesn't value her own life too highly. She clearly thinks it's a critical necessity to the plan that she makes junpei think of her that way. She thinks that's necessary for it to work. But she didn't have to do all of that for him to want to help her. Its not even just knowing his character it's stated explicitly in interview: Junpei would have saved a kid in an incinerator no matter who they were to him. Junpei DOES have a softer double standard for cute girls who are sad it shows in how he'll comfort Clover too but like he is not Nearly so shallow a person that that would have mattered to the point of putting him in the game! He would help people because they are people that need help, especially a fucking child! But.. like.. Akane didn't know that about him? Akane didn't believe in that about him?

The Kurashikis did not have the Option to just Tell Junpei what they needed from him for 999, if he understood the scenario then it wouldn't be able to function. He needed to be clueless. But if they had been able to just... tell him. I'm sure he would have just done it. i'm sure he would have been willing to do that to save her. For the true end. Safe requires letting 2 innocent people and also the executives die. What would Junpei do with that information? In what configuration would he trade those kids lives? He can't refuse to allow anyones death in that scenario. He brought his child to the moon at behest of a mysterious message promising he could see akane kurashiki.in that game she knew that was all it would take ti get him there

THE FACT THAT JUNPEI WAS HER BEST FRIEND BUT ONLY AS A CHILD AND DURING THE EVENTS OF THE GAMES DESPITE BEING EASILY TOP 2 OF THE PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT AKANE KURASHIKI MOST OF ANYONE IN THE WORLD HE DOESN'T REALLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HER. LIKE AT ALL. GRRAGHHAUGEHRHSGAGH SHAKING HIM

It takes him nearly 50 fucking years and going to the moon and getting himself and his Kid into another death game before he can finally let go of her. He lives nearly 50 years after the second nonary game he has a full life, or he should, he adopts a (grand)child, he meets who knows how many people that mattered to him - there has to have been a lot of those. He cares about people too much for there to have not been - but he lets almost ALL of it be defined by a woman he literally doesn't know shit about that is not actually THERE for any of that long life, has not been there since he was 21 or fuckin maybe since he was 12. Junpei knew her again for 9 hours and the unbearable confliction in that drives him to reshape his Entire life forever like fucking... forming himself into some grotesque bonsai tree shape that grew around the empty outline of where another person could have been. Like man maybe try a blind date or somethin at some point Though on that note i kinda hope junpei really didnt have any other romantic entanglements in 50 years for the sake of hypothetical people that would clearly have been having his fantasy hope of who akane kurashiki could be projected onto them

He's so analytical. He's, most of the time, clever and he's observant and he likes gathering information and being in control of it, that's what makes him feel secure. He is like Akane herself in that way really. They both want to control their own lives and to some extent others' and the circumstances of what happens around them but every time they encounter each other it's CLEANLY, like no fucking contest Akane who has all of that power over Junpei even when she feels trapped and out of control herself.

Maybe a 12 year old was sending him most of the puzzle answers for that game sure but he Is a good choice to solve puzzles. He's like a little compulsive about it i think. 

It's sososososo important Akane is never unmasked onscreen in 999. The last time Junpei sees her is as June. It's Aoi who drops the act and explains what's going on, Akane's gone by that point.

He needs to solve who she Is he like can't fucking rest until he's satisfied himself with being able to word the Answer to who she is and exactly why she did that to him whether she still cares about him and I think he wants that to be a binary, that if he can just put the pieces together right and gather them all up, there is a Right Answer to that question that will satisfy him. And of course he wants it to be that she's still close enough to the kindhearted little girl he loved when they were 12. he wants a definitive answer on who she is. not even akane has a definitive answer on who akane is.

He wants it to be simple, the answer to who she is, he Cannot live for himself until he settles that question. We get two main True Ending conclusions to their relationship in one he proposes to her, Immediately tries to die for her, take bets on whether they crash and burn before and after the marriage goes through tbh

In the other he concludes finally as a like 70 year old man on the moon that the Akane he knew is gone, only after being put in another fucking death game along with his Kid he is finally disillusioned enough with her to let go. And for me at the end of vlr hearing tenmyouji lament how akane is no longer the person he knew i was initially like. disparaging about it like exasperated even because come the fuck on man yeah you knew a twelve year old child its been like fucking 60 years. But ztd like really reframed that to me because at least to me it was only made clear then it wasn't about blind devotion and earnestly believing without question she WAS going to still be that person, it's... "actually about himself" is not the right phrasing at all. but it is about the absolute turmoil akane left him in and being willing - or, unable to NOT, fucking claw his life to pieces over his absolute need for closure and inability to find it without physically finding her...

And in the VLR true end finally concluding the person he cared for is lost to him not at all Easy for him like in any fuckin sense CLEARLY but that said. It is a Simple Answer to speak aloud. It simplifies her. That's the only way he can finally get over her.

All this SAID. Despite the fact he really doesn't know who she actually is despite the fact he's chasing a shadow and a contradictory well schrodingers box of possibilities he hopes she is/isn't. It is not that he doesn't genuinely love her... That's not fair to say. He doesn't seem to be capable of Not loving her. Like... despite all that shit of what she is in his Head im not sure its fair to say Junpei cares about her less genuinely or less meaningfully than Aoi who is in stark contrast probably the only person in the world who knows and understands Akane Kurashiki strictly as a Person and not a concept or a force of nature.

Pulling on my own leash to try to talk for a bit about a character without half talking about Akane Even avoiding that the easiest next topic is Quark, it's so hard to talk about Junpei by himself because he seems to make himself about the people he cares about, not even because he has a shaky sense of who he is or poor self value but just. It just Is who he is that he cares SO much about people

BUT ALSO he's a manipulative little fucker sometimes. He's The Action Hero in spirit and intent even when he doesn't want to be but door 3? Some of the shit he pulls in VLR? my boy has Layers and Nuance Knowing the 999 cast were written to fit the enneagram is such a good analysis tool it really makes Junpei click. He is all about agency. it wasnt obvious to me at first but looking at his behaviour with that in mind it's so clear. He's a person whose most fundamental desire is to have control over what happens to him whose role in the narrative is to over and over again be a pawn and a puppet and ultimately have little to no power. What a fucking cool character concept. There are two scenes in 999 that stand out to me where Junpei behaves completely differently than he does at any other point. It's door [3], and it's in the Safe end where he's exposing Ace in the hospital room. He's able to behave so cool and collected there because he's successfully made himself in control of what's happening, he's the one with all the information controlling the direction of the scenario. he thrives on that.

for what he does with door 3 he really is pulling the wool over everyone's eyes, and it will backfire horribly on him because in his selfish attempt to Stay With June he's inadvertedly fucking killing her retroactively. In the Safe end where he feels so competent every single piece of information he's using as leverage against Ace was meticuously handed out to him by the kurashikis either directly or in how they set up the enviornment eg the note in the safe, in such a way to make Junpei feel like he's solving it himself. and well yeah he is solving it himself he's legitimately smart but. It's because he is being carefully hand led to solve it. they go through the puzzles with him like "haha jumpy youre soooo smart <3" "hey nice job junpei"

Firstly, never change Grumpy ;) you are probably the only person on Tumblr to LISTEN to another view and let it change a prejudice.

Secondly, the Padagram/Social Media change bus continues. Don't be fooled people will be looking at positive and negative reactions to that change on social media.

So here goes!

1. They are starting to market season 2 of Walker in Hiatus. That really doesn't happen. That means they know they need to target new viewers. They are acknowledging they have a problem. The main problem is Jared either didn't learn enough about production quality on SPN (Jensen/Misha were both more interested in behind the camera's) or that he thought he could stick a Stetson on and we all had such sh1t for brains we'd watch anything. So they need a viewer boost DESPARATELY and are going all out to (a) persuade Walkers remaining viewer(s) that it's worth sticking around and (b) get back old viewers or convert 1m+ viewers to season 2. So now we see all the cast (and Keegan has more followers than Jared and Lindsay has a VERY engaged following) trying to persuade their followers how fabulous Walker is. Expect this scrabbling to continue if they want their COVID paychecks.

2. Connected to 1, Jared has started trying to break out of the fandom bubble. I don't think he's trying for power couple (the clue in a power couple is that two FAMOUS people get together and create a super brand, here we have one niche C famous guy and a hanger on wife), I think we are in Jared profile raising and trying to raise his recognition score, which is probably a little low having half assed it in the last year and a half. He's doing it by scatter-gunning so I'm not sure it's going to stick.

3. Connected to 2,

(i) if I run my algorithm clean laptop with a "Jared Padalecki" news search, I get (a) a daily mail article on Jared "clarifying the rift" (b) a "hello" magazine saying he's been "inundated with support after death of "family member"" (c) the new york times article on Walker and Supernatural. It then goes into a variety of articles about Jared raising money for Holly's family (fucking atrocious in my view to use her death for publicity) and a series of derivative articles on his mantrum and later explanation. ONLY THE NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE MENTIONS WALKER other than as a throw away, all of the others link to Supernatural only. Walker isn't on the main radar of anyone as a show. It's not mainstream enough to mention. it has ZERO buzz.

(ii) if I run the same search on my compromised tablet, I get a SEA of fluff articles "jared padalecki goes to venice", "jared padalecki's wife wishes him a happy birthday" "jared padalecki goes to watch soccer" "jared padalecki goes to the wrestling". I'm expecting "Jared Padalecki defecates regularly" tomorrow.

At the end of that I get the same articles as in (i) but the majority of his publicity is still going through the fandom and the, not very viewed, endless zine type websites that update on every episode of every geek show every day.

So we are seeing, and I expect it to continue, a break out Padalecki, (who knows he and his forehead may wish to have a final crack at films), and a fluff Padalecki, trying to stay relevant a year after SPN relevance ended, because he hasn't got the same push for season 2 of Walker as he had for season 1 and Walker has zero presence. No one, not even the fans are talking about Walker.

Will it work? I don't think so. Keegan has 7m followers on Insta and that's because he's a photographer and writer and it's interesting. I would follow his account (I don't), but certainly it isn't a Walker instagram.

Jared is a clever guy, but he's boring on social media. He has a limited appeal. He does family snaps, hunk snaps, flogs orange pee and flogs his show. He says "family" and "mantra" a lot but that's really it. The clue is, if you didn't know who he was and came across his instagram you wouldn't follow him. Why would you? For a video of a guy running up steps? A smug picture of two middle aged men trying to flog you something?... (oh and lots of "brother" comments on Keegan's social media, which is irritating. It's like he thinks that is his repeatable formula and it isn't).

His media approach won't work because advertising and exposure pushes a product. In TV's case, it's not a one off product and there is a lot of competition. Product Jared needs to be more interesting (his mantrum's are the only exciting thing about him - and that is tragic) and his TV show just needs to be BETTER, well, a LOT BETTER.

Soooo, expect the Padapush to continue, but it's not about a couple, it's about individual marketing and for Jared breaking out of SPN bubble. For Gen, it's her tag along profile that she'll never break out of. She'll have to be satisfied with her superpower of being able to persuade people to buy toothbrush's and dog food (if she can).

Expect though the couple's bit to die off a little. Jared is getting over exposed. His engagement rating is plummeting (nearly 3% is a plummet) because of the repetitive photo content. He'll have to back off or people will switch off (I have already). What makes me laugh is.... from the dawn of time when cavemen took their wives 2 miles away for a new cave weekend.... NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN INTERESTED IN SOMEONE ELSE'S HOLIDAY SNAPS.... Gen and Jared apparently need to learn that lesson...

I might stop these posts now because, well, it's gotta be a bit boring for you and I write LONG. :)

I started following Lindsey on IG because she seems pretty genuine, and her cat is way too cute! Plus, I like her attitude. I haven’t followed her for the whole Walker season, but even she doesn’t post a lot about it. She posts interviews and then posts about that night’s episode, but other than that, nothing.  Can’t speak for Keegan, but how are fans and non-fans supposed to be excited about a show when the people STARRING in the show can’t be bothered? Maybe they’re all aware of how shitty it is or maybe they’re lazy, but it doesn’t make sense. 

I’m always interested to see the difference in an “algorithm-free” setting and one that has an algorithm. I always figured Google was the same for everyone, but seeing the difference in articles you’ve outlined is insane. It really just goes to show that Jared isn’t the star that his stans think he is. He’s not as important as they think he is, he’s just an actor.  It’s even more jarring to see just how little Walker is talked about at all. All of my devices probably have been “contaminated” when it comes to algorithm so I can’t really speak personally about the public and fans talking about Walker or not talking about it. I can say that on the posts about Walker from the Supernatural Facebook page, a good chunk of the comments are people saying they stopped watching, never got into it, or thought it was trash. There are only a handful of comments talking about how they enjoy the show. 

I think it was disgusting for him to use a fan’s passing for publicity. And no, I don’t think it was anything other than a PR stunt. Her family had a GFM going that was promoted by plenty of the case INCLUDING GEN, so you know he knew about it. But for him to make his own special one and then have articles posted everywhere about how charitable he is? That’s gross PR bullshit and I hope it backfires. 

I still follow a few Supernatural fans, Jared fans, Jensen fans, etc. on Tumblr and even they aren’t mentioning it. I think maybe the hardcore Jared stans post gifsets or whatever, but I don’t see much praise for the show itself, just Jared’s looks. Even the fans aren’t biting and that would make me reevaluate everything if I was Jared.

I mean, I could see him doing like a side character role or something small, but I can’t see him having a big part of a movie. Like I said, maybe that’s me being biased but I see him staying in TV. I could be proven wrong, but I don’t know. 

I agree about Jared being boring on SM. I used to get some giggles from his Twitter posts and even some of his early IG posts because they were goofy, clever, and candid. It showed his humor and was more personable. Now it’s just all fake and comes off as someone whose only motivation to engage with fans is money and that’s a big turn off. 

For me personally, I think that if instead of the “couple goals” bullshit that they try to push for their lavish trips, if they just posted cool pictures they took of different locations, activities, food or whatever, that would be more palatable than all the “Look at my hubster and I! We’re in Italy! Look at how in love we are!” But maybe that’s because I’ve become a bit of a photography nerd? 

I guess time will tell whether or not Jared will make positive changes and if Walker can be saved, but I’m not really optimistic about it.
